Most everybody enjoys autos. And most people want bargains. These two aspects combine for a general love of great deals on cars. Where do these cars come from? Police often acquire cars through taking them from criminals. For example its the law that drug dealers’ possessions are confiscated and sold. When these cars are taken it isn’t long before it’s time to sell them for a little cash. Tickets also generate a lot of these cars. If the owner doesn’t claim the vehicle, or if the fines accumulate to a certain point, the car will be up for sale.

Often the cars are purchased by individuals who sell them for a profit. Or auto auctions might buy them and then sell them in turn to the highest bidder. It’s no matter. A smart buyer can get the car for a song when its up for auction. However, there are some things to consider. As the saying goes it’s “buyer beware.”

Cars bought at these places have no warranties. All sales are final and it’s up to you to do the homework. The term “as is” covers it. The seller can even engage in puffery in most states. When car dealers say “clean as a whistle” that’s puffery. Some key words like “clean” or “like new” are also involved. The law allows quite a bit of latitude on this phrases that imply quality. However, on closer examination they really don’t mean too much other than “here’s a worm, grab the hook.”

Have some information when you visit an auction. Inspect the autos thoroughly. Bring a mechanic with you if possible. Don’t hesitate to test drive the car. Police impound cars for sale can be a bargain. However, if great deals were easy to find everyone would have them.
